Candidate Chooses TV Over Wentworth Debate
There will be one empty chair at tonight’s debate in Wentworth as the Liberal candidate has suddenly withdrawn from the event.
Word came late yesterday in an email simply saying, “Due to scheduling difficulties, Lenore Zann will no longer be able to attend.” The message offered no other details.
Zann has subsequently advised Six Rivers News that she has opted for a seat on a CTV panel. A commitment had been made to the local debate but the candidate saw the TV invitation as a higher priority. That is not a scheduling conflict, that is a choice, one that denies local voters who feel isolated from those who subscribe to the belief that bigger is better.
There is also speculation that Scott Armstrong, the Conservative candidate, might also forgo the event. While he did not formally accept the invitation, he did submit his personal questions for the debate as requested by organizers.
The debate will continue with a full stage of candidates as there are eight on the ballot for the October 21st vote.
The doors open at the Wentworth Recreation Centre at 6:30 and the debate starts at 7 o’clock.
