Chamber of Commerce Reaches Out with New Name

The Pugwash and Area Chamber of Commerce took an historic step last night to broaden its base and adopt a larger service area. The name Pugwash and Area has been retired to embrace the larger region.

The chamber voted to change its name to Six Rivers Chamber of Commerce and begin to represent the entire watershed region.

Chamber President Bill Kempt was quite passionate that to succeed in being a positive force, the chamber needed to have a broader membership with stronger resources, and a more powerful voice, something he felt unattainable as a small group.

Most members agreed on the need to grow their base, however there was some modest dissent over the name and the breadth of the new coverage area. The motion, which was first discussed last June, was passed and the reaching out to other communities within the Six Rivers region will begin in earnest.

I also agree, before the word ( area ) what did it mean? Did it mean west Pugwash or North Port. No one new at least I didn't. Now with the new name Six Rivers from North Port to Malagash we are all in one and one for all, what helps one helps us all. Pulling together we will all prosper and grow.
