Deadline Wednesday for Public Hearing Comments
Cumberland Council will host two important public hearings next week, but the deadline to take part is tomorrow.
The Wednesday hearings will be held online because of the coronavirus restrictions on gathering, and the hearings are charged with enough controversy to draw a crowd.
The hearings focus on a new county-wide sewer bylaw and a measure that deals with local improvement charges and enforcement. Both involve charges for services that have raised the ire of taxpayers across the county.
When the Parrsboro sewer extension issue rose in council, a community delegation filled the council chamber to overflowing and the subsequent uproar caused staff to call the RCMP to the meeting, just in case.
People have been invited to have their say, the very purpose of a public hearing. However, the online nature may be confusing or intimidating to some.
You can phone, write, or email your comments, but the deadline is tomorrow.
