Emergency Services Surprise in Pugwash
Emergency service at the hospital in Pugwash remains open today for the fifth straight day. And the good news is, it will stay open over the weekend and through Monday.
This remarkable run of eight days stands in stark contrast to the department’s record over the last year when it was closed for very long periods, averaging six out of seven days a week.
The turnaround is not permanent but it is certainly welcome.
Credit goes to a renewed effort from the local medical community and the site manager at the hospital. Both have been scouring the region for physicians who are willing to give a day here and a day there.
In fact, the recent coverage included three days by a physician vacationing in the area. A recently retired doctor from Amherst has offered an occasional day, and others are responding to local physicians who are asking a favour.
It is a never-ending search that is paying dividends and is appreciated by the community.
The service will be open Saturday, Sunday and Monday, then closed Tuesday from m8 am to 8 pm. It opens again on Wednesday but closes during the day on Thursday and Friday.
