Final Meeting for Outgoing Oxford Councillors
Oxford Town Council meets tonight but the new mayor will be sitting in the online gallery.
While Greg Henley was elected as mayor on Saturday, he must wait till November 2nd to be sworn in to take the gavel.
Tonight’s meeting will be the last for the outgoing council. The agenda includes regular monthly reports like public works, fire, and community economic development. However, council will also look at Northern Region Waste Resource Committee Minutes dating back to February, and Police Advisory Board Minutes as far back as January.
Both solid waste management and policing services were somewhat contentious issues during the recent election campaign.
The outgoing council tussled with the two issues as major budget categories but all suggestions for cost cutting have not found agreement.
These and other financial matters will remain as targets for the new council when sworn in next month.
As usual, since the imposition of public health guidelines to fight the spread COVID-19, tonight’s meeting will be online starting at 6:00 o’clock.
