Health Authority Boss Whips Through Pugwash Visit

The CEO of the Nova Scotia Health Authority made a whirlwind stop in Pugwash this morning as part of a provincial tour before retiring later this month. Janet Knox was accompanied by the interim Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Tom Marrie.

The two were in Amherst yesterday and Pugwash just after 9:00 this morning.

They met with staff at the hospital and at the nearby medical clinic before heading off to Tatamagouche and an overnight stay in Antigonish.

There was no advance notice to the media or the public, raising questions about the secretive tour.

Staff were not specifically directed to withhold their questions but it was made quite clear there would be no answers. For some, it was simply an unwelcome intrusion in their workday.

Knox announced her retirement earlier this year following petitions and numerous calls for her dismissal which would have been unlikely since she was appointed to the high-profile position by Premier Stephen McNeil, a personal friend.
