Oxford Keeps Tighter Rein on Tax Spending

Oxford Town Council heard from the Nova Scotia Municipal Finance Corporation (MFC) last night on best practices for handling residents tax dollars.

MFC representative Paul Wills offered guidelines on financial forecasting, cash-flow, and accounting policies and procedures.

This is part of the continuing efforts to improve the town's efficiency and transparency regarding revenues and spending.

An audit presented last month showed the town's finances are well in hand, with improved budgeting and tax measures putting the house in order under Chief Administrative Officer Rachel Jones.

Hiring for a new position for the town — a senior accountant — is due to be announced shortly.
