Problems Fall from Oxford Arena Ceiling
The Town of Oxford is trying to solve a pesky problem in its arena. Special tape that provides insulation and secures ceiling panels has deteriorated allowing tape particles and condensation to fall to the ice. The condensation builds up creating vertical icicles like stalagmites often pausing activities to scrap the ice.
The town’s councillors fear it poses a risk to skaters.
One proposal is costed at 10 thousand dollars but council is not certain the repairs would be lasting. Staff has been asked to do further research on the issue and the background experience of possible contractors.
There is a pressing problem, however, as the work cannot be completed when there is ice in the building. Current plans call for opening the arena by October 23rd, leaving very little time to consider the ceiling work, suggesting it will be delayed till next spring.
