Dangerous Fire Near Angevine Lake

UPDATED WITH EVACUATION ORDER

Residents of Dewars Drive, near Angevine Lake, have been forced to evacuate their homes as firefighters deal with a forest fire in the area. The RCMP has closed the street to traffic and residents were ordered out of the area.

Fire crews are fighting a woods fire near Angevine Lake. The call to Wallace Fire Department went out just before 1:00 o’clock, citing a report of smoke in the area.

Subsequent calls requested help from Tatamagouche, while the mutual aid system sent a crew from Pugwash to provide backup in Wallace, while Oxford sent a backup to Pugwash.

Firefighters from the Department of Natural Resources also joined the fight in the woods.

The three departments are still on the scene as of 4 pm.

Residents of Dewars Drive have been evacuated by RCMP due to smoke conditions.

The entire province is under a burning ban as the forests and brush are tinder dry following the spell of unusually high temperatures and very little rain.

Cumberland Emergency Measures Organization is urging the public to stay clear of the area.
