Market Plans Railway Re-creation in Pugwash

Plans to establish a commercial kitchen in an antique train caboose have been put on hold by the Pugwash Farmers’ Market.

While the market secured $50 thousand in funding for the project, further work suggests the purchase and installation of the antique train car would prove much more costly.

Instead, the creative group will re-create the old train station’s platform, complete with replica awnings, and add outdoor lights and furniture.

They want to be as true to the former station as possible, while matching current buildings codes, access, and safety concerns.

The platform will be a focal point for a new green space area of the market.

The idea of a commercial kitchen to allow preparation of hot foods at the Saturday venue will be left to simmer on the back burner.

There will be community discussions held this month to gauge interest and hear ideas from the public, followed by structural drawings, with the hope of completion by October.

Rebecca Taylor, the Market Manager, will be our guest on Morning Talk Wednesday at 9:45.
