Wentworth Wind Farm Faces More Tests
Premier Tim Houston says the selection of a Higgins Mountain wind proposal is just the first step in a long process to approval.
Speaking on Six Rivers Radio yesterday, Houston said the independent administrator’s role was to select bidders largely on the basis of economic viability. He added that there are many steps to come, including a study of environmental impact and other rigorous measures.
The Premier was on his regular monthly appearance on Morning Talk when he said he appreciates that some people will be concerned and he looks forward to on-going dialogue before making any final decision.
The comment follows distribution of an unsigned statement from opponents calling itself the Protect Wentworth Committee. The group centres its attack on the premier, critical of the evaluation process that was put in place long before Houston became Premier.
He said most people realise that Nova Scotia must take green energy initiatives in the midst of a world climate crisis. He agreed that more conversation is needed and people deserve a direct benefit from projects in their back yard.
The Premier sits for a live interview, every month on the local radio network, something he has done since his days as Nova Scotia’s opposition leader
