All Open Fires Banned Across Nova Scotia
Two forest fires are burning in Nova Scotia as fire conditions are extremely dry across the entire province.
A brush fire near Porter’s Lake on the Eastern Shore is now out of control and residents of West Porter’s Lake have been ordered to evacuate.
Highway 107 at exit 19 is currently closed as a Lands and Forestry fire crew and two helicopters wrestle with the stubborn blaze fed by very dry conditions and strong winds.
Meanwhile, fire broke out Near Chester Grant yesterday, closing part of Highway 12 near Chester Basin. Fourteen fire departments and a water bombing helicopter gained control of the blaze which covered about 27 hectares.
The dry conditions have led to a province-wide ban on all fires in woods or with 305 metres of any woods, including backyard brush burning, until June 1st.
Conditions are so dry, residential fire pits and appliances are also banned today. Backyard fire pits are sometimes allowed between 2 pm and 8 am, but you must check the daily restrictions at https://novascotia.ca/burnsafe/.
