Amherst Man Arrested for Child Porn
The RCMP Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) has charged an Amherst man for sexual offences.
The provincial ICE unit was alerted by its federal counterpart, the National Child Exploitation Crime Centre last December.
The investigation led to Amherst and a search warrant executed at a residence this past Tuesday.
The search ended in the arrest of Lee Jerald James Legere, age 36. He has been charged with Luring a Child and Making Sexually Explicit Material Available to a Child.
Legere was released, with conditions, and is scheduled to appear in Amherst Provincial court on August 26.
It is mandatory, in Nova Scotia, for citizens to report suspected child pornography. This means that anyone who encounters child pornographic material or recordings must report it to the police.
Failing to report suspicious activity and materials could result in penalties similar to failure to report child abuse, as set out in the Child and Family Services Act.
The RCMP encourages citizens to be a voice for children who are victims of sexual exploitation by reporting any suspected offences to your local police or by using Canada's national tip line for reporting online sexual exploitation of children at www.cybertip.ca.
