Amherst Police Arrest Suspicious Man with a Gun

Amherst Police took a man into custody Thursday afternoon following a complaint of a prowler with a firearm in the area of Mission Street.
Cory LeBlanc, aged 31 of Amherst was charged with two counts of breach of probation, two counts of possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace, one count of mischief, one count of breach of a weapons prohibition, one count of carrying a concealed weapon, and a charge of resisting arrest.
The accused was held in custody overnight, made a brief court appearance yesterday and returns on January 30 to face the charges.
LeBlanc was wearing dark clothes and a balaclava when reported just before 1:00 o’clock. A short while later he was seen behind a row of houses.
Police responded to Mission Street and West Highlands School was placed in lockdown as a precaution during the investigation.
A man matching the description was located, carrying an air-sot rifle and an air-soft pistol, both of which look like authentic firearms.
The investigation is ongoing.
Once the lockdown was lifted, the Amherst Police Department School Resource Officer spoke with students and staff of West Highlands School.
