Amherst Traffic Stop Results in Arrest
A Saturday afternoon traffic stop on Hickman Street in Amherst resulted in arrest and multiple charges.
The 33-year-old Amherst man, Cody Ryan Cottenden was stopped, arrested, and jailed when an Amherst police officer spotted him at the wheel of a car. It is known by police that Cottenden does not have a licence.
He was charged with one count of driving while impaired, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of possession of a concealed weapon and applicable charges under the Drugs and Substances Act. He is also facing charges under the Motor Vehicle Act for driving without a license.
He was spotted about 3:00 pm on Saturday while driving in the area of Cornwall Avenue. The attending officer noticed drug paraphernalia in the vehicle and recognized signs of impairment.
Police also located weapons and drugs during the arrest.
Cottenden was taken into custody and made a brief court appearance this morning. He will return to court on January 31, 2024.
