Big Trucks Banned from Howard Bridge
The Howard Bridge over the Wallace River on Fountain Road is now limited to one ton traffic.
The popular short cut to and from the Wentworth Valley was closed last week for repairs and reopened on Saturday, without advisory from the Department of Public Works.
When contacted by Six Rivers News, the department’s media contact said the information was available by phoning 511. In other words, go find out for yourself.
The bridge is a popular shortcut for people travelling to and from the Wentworth Valley and the western part of the north shore.
The department gave no reason for the sudden weight limit, announced today through Twitter, though the reliability of the structure has been questioned for some time.
While large trucks, like salt carriers, were supposed to avoid the bridge, it is common knowledge that large vehicles often use the time saving route.
