Car Crash Claims Port Philip Woman

A 42 year-old Port Philip woman died in a single vehicle crash on Highway 321 near Rockley.

Emergency personnel were called out shortly after 9:00 o’clock yesterday morning. On arrival, they found a car had hit a tree and a power pole. The lone occupant was pronounced deceased at the scene by EHS personnel.

Early reports suggest the accident may have happened through the night but but the car was well of the roadway in some trees and would not have easily been seen by drivers on the road.

The highway was closed until nearly 4:00 in the afternoon. Travellers were detoured from the intersection of 321 and Highway 6 on the northern end and 321 and Water Street in Oxford.

A coroner was called to the scene and the incident is under police investigation.
