Challenge for Six Rivers News & Radio
We are taking a break from Morning Talk this week to relax and refresh for an aggressive new year in local radio.
Six Rivers News is just three months away from its eighth birthday — April 1st — and we have committed to some dramatic improvements, beginning in January.
It is not just about sound quality, but programming quality.
We’ll start with some new hardware that will allow two phone callers at the same time. This will allow listeners to call-in to take part in Morning Talk or listener contests, or simple song requests. It would also allow you to call-in with your questions to our guests, regulars like Premier Tim Houston, Dr. Stephen Ellis, Tory Rushton, our local mayors, and special people in the news.
We also hope to expand our local community news, hoping to establish a level of coverage like we have in Oxford with Mark Rushton. Perhaps you would like to be our “Community Reporter” in your home area. If so, call Bill Martin at 902-614-3000.
We do have some challenges that need attention. Our web portal — www.sixrivers.ca — is nearly full. Every story written over the past seven years is still available on the portal. However storage space is a great concern and an expensive proposition.
We recently experienced some difficulty adding photos to accompany our new stories. We were able to negotiate a little extra, temporary space with our web host, but notice has been served that we must trim.
It is actually easy. Like most web-based sites and bloggers, all we have to do is toss away the old stuff. However, unlike most websites, we are keenly aware of the importance of our “old news.”
With the demise of traditional newspapers, the keepers of our history, we lose our recorded past. Six Rivers news is proud that you can currently find every story we have ever written and we are searching desperately for a way to continue to be the keeper of our local history.
It may go hand-in-hand with a modest expansion as we look for effective ways to provide legal notices and announcements, like births, obituaries, and other personals.
We would appreciate your kind help.
Please complete this short survey. We are told it takes about a minute, but your answers will be very helpful.
