Christmas Eve Comes Early to Pugwash Church
The day before Christmas is full of expectation, and churches everywhere tend to hold special Christmas Eve services. But, one Pugwash church offers a service the day before that to avoid conflict with their sister churches.
Pugwash Baptist Church holds a special service on Christmas Eve Eve. That is not a typo. They hold their special service on the 23rd.
It has become a kind of tradition for the church, whose members come from communities all around Pugwash. Many of the church members expressed an interest in attending the special services offered in their home communities on Christmas Eve. The solution seemed simple, offer the Christmas celebration a day early and members can do both.
Pastor Bill Martin says people get confused when he invites them to the "eve eve" service. Somebody suggested it be called "Christmas Adam" to set it apart from "Christmas Eve", given that Adam preceded Eve in creation.
Whatever you call it, Pugwash Baptist has a celebration evening on December 23, this Friday. The Springhill Baptist Choir are special guests this year, bringing their depth of music talent to Pugwash for their first ever "eve eve" appearance.
The special service starts at 6:30. with the doors opening at 6 pm.
Pugwash Baptist may also be the only church in the village to hold a Sunday service this week. With Christmas Day falling on Sunday, many churches have cancelled services for this week. The Baptists feel that a Sunday Christmas Day service is even more special than usual. The celebration service starts at 10:30 am.
