Co-op AGM Short on Required Members
The long-awaited annual meeting of the Pugwash Co-op turned into a social gathering tonight.
About seventy-five people attended, but not enough co-op members to reach a quorum for an actual meeting.
The current by-laws require 115 members be present to conduct a meeting. There were only 50 registered members present when the meeting was supposed to start.
The key is registered members. Many couples attended, but they tended to share a membership, offering only a single vote.
The rules required officials to wait thirty minutes in the hope more members might arrive, but fifty people waiting for 65 more to join them was a bit much to hope.
The co-op has called another annual meeting for Wednesday, July 6, also at the Northumberland Curling Club.
However, the rules are different for the follow-up meeting. There is no fixed number for a quorum. However many attend, the meeting will proceed.
