Coal Miners Keep Pace with the Best
The Springhill Coal Miners almost tamed the giant last night in game two of the Beausejour Senior Hockey semi-finals.
The Elsipogtog Hawks took the game 3-2, but they really had to work for it.
The Hawks led the league this season and cruised most of the year without a loss. When they won, they won big.
But not yesterday!
They led 2-0 in the first period but Springhill got on the board late in the frame on a goal from Jordan Wentzell to keep it close.
There was no scoring in the second period and the Coal Miners tied it up midway through the third on a shot from Adam Chipman.
The Hawks netted the winner at 11:15 and great goal tending at both ends kept the marksmen at bay.
It was predicted early in the season that the Miners would be like a fine wine, improving with age.
The fact they are in the semi-finals in their maiden season is proof, but skating within a goal of the powerful Hawks says the Coal Miners are the real deal.
Games three and four are set for Springhill this weekend — Saturday at 7 pm and Sunday at 6:00.
