Community Interest in Pugwash Eyesore
Could the old fire station in Pugwash be getting a facelift? That’s the hope of many residents as a small group has asked the Village if they would consider other options for the Public Works building, now considered by many as an eyesore.
Pablo Rodriguez of Port Howe says the building may offer other uses. He said a fitness centre might work, but he needed to know if the Village Commission was “open to any options for improvement?”
Local builder Mike Cunningham pushed further and asked the Commission to set an evaluation on what he called a “condemned building.” The village clerk, Lisa Betts, quickly responded, “It is not condemned, it is closed to public access.”
The commission agreed to have the property evaluated and they invited Rodriguez to inspect the facility.
The building, next to the high traffic Coop, has been roundly criticised as unsightly for years. According to the clerk, plans to improve the public building have repeatedly been scrapped due to budget constraints.
