Connecting the Dots on the Great Trail
Nova Scotians will mark the 100 per cent connection of the Trans Canada Trail at more than 30 events this morning, including two in Six Rivers to the Sea.
Celebrations are happening in Nova Scotia and across Canada, as trail enthusiasts come together to celebrate the national connection of the trail.
Oxford & Area Trails Association is hosting a walk at 9:30 (45° 43' 20.11'' N 63° 52' 14.12'' W, Oxford). It will be followed by the official opening of the new trail tunnel, celebrating volunteers, landowners, organizations, and small communities. Join a few special speakers for food, local musicians, decorations and novelties to celebrate our trails. The ribbon cutting ceremony is set for 11 am.
The Cumberland Snowmobile Club is holding a community meet & greet, picnic and BBQ at their shelter on the Chignecto Ship Railway near Tidnsih, as they celebrate the connection of the trail from 3500 Highway 366 Tidnish to 3504 Highway 366, Northport. They will gather at 11 am.
The Minister of Natural Resources says, "The connection of the Trans Canada Trail is a major milestone and government is honoured to have supported its development through in-kind and financial support." Margaret Miller added, "This great trail provides us a way to connect communities, explore nature, and to follow a healthy and active lifestyle."
The Nova Scotia portion of the Trans Canada Trail totals more than 1,200 kilometres. More than half of the trail is located on public lands.
