Coop Members to Reconsider Sale to Sobeys
Members of the Pugwash Coop will be asked once again if they want to sell their grocery store to Sobeys.
Members agreed to the proposal at the Annual General Meeting back on July 15th, but that meeting was ruled invalid due to insufficient notice to members.
Another AGM is scheduled for November 12th at the legion in Pugwash. The coop is issuing written notices to its membership, along with posters, and advertising.
The sale was supposed to have closed September 8th but that was delayed when Sobeys asked for an extension to complete some environmental testing.
During the delay, the coop board learned the earlier meeting did not meet the provincial Coop Act regulations.
If approved, Sobeys will award a franchise for a Foodland Store and undertake an expansion and modernization.
