County Deals with Fire Trucks and Ice Time
The Municipality of Cumberland has agreed to buy new rescue vehicles for two fire departments.
Westchester will receive a new F550 4x4 Crew Cab at a cost of $283,958.
The sophisticated rescue truck is all decked out to meet the needs of a department that is busy with motor vehicle accidents along Highway 4 and the Trans Canada Highway.
Westchester currently operates an aging two-wheel drive vehicle that is inadequate for the job.
A smaller rescue truck, costing $75,528, will go to the Advocate Fire Department.
The new purchases follow a county wide review of fire services that revealed serious equipment needs across the county, needs the county has committed to meet over the coming years.
Meanwhile, the county has amended the ice rental rates at the Richard Calder Arena in Springhill.
It was partly a periodic review and an effort to harmonize rates with the nearby Amherst Stadium.
Council’s policy is designed to ensure rates are fair while optimising use of the facility.
Cumberland Minor Hockey is the biggest user of the arena. Aside from paid bookings, the county also provided the hockey program with 270 hours of free ice time, valued at $26,730 for regular ice and $4,000 in free ice for tournaments.
