County Decision Looms on Multi-purpose Centre
The Pugwash Village Commission had an unusually long meeting last night, spending a great deal of time considering the current status of the multi-purpose centre proposed for Durham Street.
Commissioner Sue Duncan expressed her concern that the county project, which has ballooned to 4.4 million dollars, is more of a Cadillac than taxpayers hoped for when they set out to build a new library.
The project, ten years in the planning, faces its crossroads on April 21st when Cumberland Council will decide whether to move the project forward by authorizing final drawings.
If approved, the county wants to be, "shovel ready", if and when funding programs are available from senior governments.
The federal government, through ACOA, has been a major supporter of the project over the last ten years. However, there is no agreement, yet in place, committing any government to actual construction.
