County Flags Lowered for Popular Doctor
Flags are flying at half staff across the Municipality of Cumberland out of respect for the late Dr. Brian Ferguson who passed away last Thursday.
The good doctor was a friend to many and his commitment to his patients and his community was almost unparalleled.
A press release from the mayor’s office said, “From his arrival in Amherst in 1986, to open his family medical practice, Dr. Ferguson’s commitment to his patients, the community and the future of health-care in Cumberland County was above and beyond the call of duty.”
Murray Scott offered deepest sympathies to the Ferguson family on behalf of county council and the staff of the municipality.
The press statement noted, “Along with Dr. Kris Bienkowski, Dr. Ferguson campaigned for enhanced status for the emergency department at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre and championed the cause of health care at that hospital as well as the North Cumberland Memorial Hospital in Pugwash and All Saints Hospital in Springhill, where he worked in the emergency departments following the retirement of his family practice.”
Dr. Ferguson was recognized by his peers in 2014 when he was named the Rural Physician of the Year by Doctors Nova Scotia.
