County Man Charged in Amherst Stabbing

A 23-year-old Cumberland County man is facing charges following a stabbing incident that occurred in the South Albion Street area of Amherst yesterday.

Riley Cody Fillmore was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon following an investigation into the incident by Amherst police officers.

Police were alerted about a stabbing just before 11:00 o’clock last night. Two men were involved in an altercation when one was stabbed, causing serious but not life threatening injuries. He was transported to the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.

A second call provided the information that led police to arrest Fillmore.

Police said the stabbing was an isolated incident and was no risk to public safety.

Fillmore was scheduled to appear today in Amherst provincial court to answer the charges.
