County to Consider Major Projects Tonight
Two local groups may learn the fate of major projects tonight when Cumberland County Council meets in a special session.
Council will discuss a plan to replace the Shinimicas Firehall which was lost to fire on April 23rd.
The blaze destroyed the building and contents in a fire that started in an electrical component aboard one of the trucks. Insurance will cover most of the replacement.
Council will look at a plan for an expanded building on a larger piece of property.
Meanwhile, the Pugwash Yacht Club waits for a decision on financial support to dredge part of Pugwash Harbour, make repairs to the floating docks, and expand docking facilities at the recreational landmark.
The club has substantial support from the federal government through a commitment from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, but it requires a contribution from the county in order to begin this year.
The proposal is part of a greater plan for the Pugwash waterfront which already has the support of council though intended sometime down the road. Approval tonight would fast track the yacht club effort and allow dredging to be completed this fall.
The meeting will be held online starting at 6:00 o'clock.
