Staff Reporter / Friday, February 28, 2020 / Categories: News Couples Gain Long-Term Care Protection Couples deserve to stay together when they live in long-term care facilities. That’s the new view of the provincial government. The Minister of Health and Wellness says, “We want to do everything we can to help life partners stay together as they age, it's the right thing to do.” Randy Delorey says, “Couples should be able to stay together even if one person may need a different level of care.” The government introduced legislation today called the Life Partners in Long Term Care Act which will allow couples to be placed together at the highest care level required. Government will also work with Veterans Affairs Canada to ensure this right also applies to spouses of veterans. Over 2,500 Nova Scotians were admitted to long-term care facilities in 2018-19.
