COVID Fourth Wave Surges in Nova Scotia
Nova Scotia is reporting 31 new cases of COVID-19 today raising the active case count to 71 across the province.
While the report covers new cases from Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 31 represents a dramatic and concerning surge, especially in light of dramatically rising numbers across Canada in the fourth wave of the pandemic.
"We expected to see an increase in case numbers in Nova Scotia as we've been seeing in other provinces," said Dr. Shelley Deeks, Nova Scotia's deputy chief medical officer of health. "It's important to understand most of these cases are related to travel and they are strictly adhering to the public health measures.”
Deeks urged residents to get fully vaccinated, continue testing, and maintain the social measures that help mitigate exposure and further spread.
Twenty-six of the cases are in Central Zone. Three cases are in Northern Zone, and two cases are in Western Zone.
Nova Scotia Health says there are currently no COVID patients in hospital.
