COVID’s Fourth Wave Could Rock the Boat
Everybody is talking about relaxing the COVID restrictions, but the number of infections is rising dramatically in every province, including Nova Scotia.
Nova Scotia’s chief medical officer warned that the fourth wave of COVID would soon hit Nova Scotia. That was two days ago.
Given the case numbers over the last week, Dr. Robert Strang may not have been predicting but rather announcing.
We had 10 new cases last Friday, with another 17 over the weekend. Yesterday and Tuesday accounted for 18 along with the announcement of another death, a man in his 60s from the Western Zone. Today we learn of seven more added to the list for a total of fifty-two.
Premier-designate Tim Houston said, "This virus has had devastating impacts on too many families. Please get vaccinated as soon as possible, get tested if you have symptoms and continue to follow public health protocols.”
That advice more important than ever as the Delta variant is driving the fourth wave surge, a variant that is easier to catch, affects younger people, and causes more damage.
Cumberland needs to pay attention too, as more and more cases are from the Northern Zone, and warnings of possible contact have recently been issued in Amherst.
That is why three testing clinics were hurriedly set-up in the county.
Dr. Robert Strang says, "The vaccine can help prevent serious illness, hospitalization and death. I encourage all Nova Scotians to get both doses as soon as they can to protect themselves and the people around them."
