Cumberland Reports COVID Exposure in Springhill
Cumberland County’s municipal building in Springhill has been closed due to a low risk potential COVID-19 exposure.
Staff at the 43 Main Street office may have been exposed on May 14th and all are being tested by provincial health officials.
A press release issued today, says there has been no Public Health order to close any section of the building. As this has been deemed a low-risk exposure by Public Health, there is no requirement for these staff members to self isolate. They will be self monitoring for symptoms until May 28.
The county’s chief administrative officer says, “The health and safety of our employees is one of our top priorities.” Greg Herrett added, “With that in mind, earlier today we advised all municipal staff in all of our facilities, county wide, that we would provide paid time off to get COVID-19 tests and vaccines. We encourage all employers to do the same, the health of our communities may depend on it.”
Mayor Murray Scott has been in touch with the regional leadership at Public Health to ask that clear lines of communication between Public Health and the community be established immediately.
The mayor said, “I have asked that testing be made available in Springhill and have offered the municipality’s assistance with both facilities and volunteers.”
