Cumberland to Review Water Services
The Municipality of Cumberland operates three separate water utilities, but county council feels there is economy in running the three as one.
The county operates water services in Parrsboro, Springhill, and Pugwash, each of which is required to conduct a detailed water study for approval by the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board.
Mayor Murray Scott once asked if water should cost more in Parrsboro than Pugwash and most agreed that if the county provides water, the rate should be the same throughout Cumberland.
Council will discuss the question of amalgamating all water services under one utility at its meeting next Wednesday.
All three services are due for independent water rate studies and budgets. Aside from different rates, Parrsboro residents do not have water metres while water charges in Springhill and Pugwash are based on measured water use.
Any changes must have the approval of the UARB.
