Don’t Poke the Bear in Springhill
The Tracadie Alpines scored just 52 seconds into the first period last night in Springhill, but that just poked the bear.
The Springhill Coal Miners unleashed a furious offensive response en route to an 11-5 drubbing of their New Brunswick guests in the Beausejour Senior Hockey League.
The Miners led 5-2 after twenty minutes, and stretched that to 7-2 after the second period, before closing out the lop-sided encounter.
Nick Jordan contributed a hat trick, Michael Clarke and R.D. Chisholm added a pair each, while Trevor Layton, Rene George, Mats Stone, and Mitchell O’Neill rounded out the offence. Throw in four assists, and R.D. Chisholm enjoyed a six point night.
The win moved the Miners into sole possession of second place, behind the Dalhousie Marauders, but just one point ahead of a three team pack that includes Elsipogtog, Tracadie, and Miramichi.
Springhill will take a road trip to River Valley next Friday and play host to the Miramichi Northmen at the Richard Calder Arena on Saturday.
