Doughnut Tops the Wild Blueberry Challenge
Three people enjoyed the best gig in Pugwash today, as they judged a variety of blueberry treats at the Farmers Market. The competition was held as part of the regional Wild Blueberry Festival taking place from Amherst to Truro until September 1.
Debbie Cameron, Marilyn Horton, and Bill Martin took a lot of ribbing as they deliberated over the various wild blueberry concoctions. One of the judges said the onlookers were just jealous.
There were thirteen entries in the competition, ranging from the traditional pies, muffins, cakes, and a flan, to the extremes of doughnuts and chutney.
The judges agreed that all the entries were tasty and worthy. But one stood out, a doughnut filled with a lemon cream base, wild blueberries and mint leaves, produced by Sharon McGinnis of Wallace Bridge. It was the unanimous choice of the judges.
