Driver Seriously Injured in Wallace Bay Collision
A Colchester County man was airlifted to hospital in Halifax following a single-car accident in Wallace Bay yesterday.
Fire, EHS, and police were dispatched about 6:50 am with a report that a vehicle struck a power pole. Indeed, the collision knocked out power in the area, including the Pugwash Fire Department which was paged to respond.
Wallace firefighters were called to use their hydraulic tools—often referred to as the jaws of life—to free the driver from the debris. Pugwash Fire Department only recently received new hydraulic gear which is not yet in service.
The yet unidentified man, 56 years-of-age, was taken by ambulance to hospital where he was transferred by LifeFlight to the tertiary care emergency facilities in Halifax.
Cumberland RCMP say the car was travelling east on Highway 6 at the time of the mishap. The collision reportedly snapped a power pole, causing the outage. Nova Scotia Power had to install a new power pole in restoring power to the area.
A police ‘collision reconstructionist’ attended the scene and the road was closed for a number of hours.
The investigation is ongoing.
