Staff Reporter / Tuesday, September 20, 2016 / Categories: News Election Season Extended in Oxford The Town of Oxford will have two elections this year, one as part of the province-wide municipal elections on October 15th, and a special election on December 3rd. The campaign is already underway in the race for mayor. Trish Stewart, the incumbent, has been challenged by Arnold MacDonald. All the council seats have been decided by acclamation except one. In the past, the town has enjoyed some hotly contested races, but this year there was a marked shortage of candidates. Three councillors, Wade Adshade, Tom Kay, and Dawn Thompson, were re-elected without a contest. Three other councillors did not re-offer. Greg Wood replaced Barry Patriquin, Paul Jones filled the vacancy left by Rick Draper, and Darlene Ellis's seat is yet to be filled, requiring the special election in December. Anyone interested in the final council position must complete and file nomination papers by November 8. The forms may be picked up at the town office after October 19. Meanwhile the current council will continue to meet until the swearing in ceremony for the new council in November.
