Emergency Water Restrictions in Springhill
The hot, dry summer has forced the Springhill Water Utility to impose water restrictions on all residents and businesses.
The mandatory restrictions are in effect now and until further notice because of low water levels in Leamington Brook, which supplies Springhill water.
Water customers cannot water lawns, gardens, plants or other outside usage. Residents cannot wash cars or other vehicles at home. However, commercial car washes are still operating for the time being.
A release from the Municipality of Cumberland suggests residents can help conserve water by fixing leaky plumbing, reduces shower times, installing low flow shower heads and appliances, wash only full loads of laundry, or turning off the water tap while brushing teeth.
The water restrictions will help maintain essential water service for all customers and protect the Leamington Brook watershed. Conserving water may help avoid a potentially serious situation involving boil water orders or future water outages.
