Emotion Cracks Staid Village Meeting
A little emotion crept into last night’s debate at the Pugwash Village Commission.
Former Chair, Roger Mundle, asked again about additions and improvements to the playground area of Eaton Park. When he was told there was no money for capital projects, he asked what the village paid for flowers and gardening services.
While the Village Clerk noted there was some cost-sharing with Communities in Bloom, Lisa Betts eventually answered that the expenditure is about 35 hundred dollars per year.
Mundle said 35 hundred to plant and water flowers and nothing for the children’s playground.
Commissioner Sue Duncan said they are two different things, but Mundle emphasised, there has not been one new addition to the playground since I’ve been on the commission, but we can spend 35 hundred every year on flowers.
Commissioner Dave MacEwan said the biggest complaint he hears with regularity is there is nothing for kids to do.
Brent Wilson, Chair of the Commission suggested an informal questionnaire to determine what the community might want in the playground. The Clerk says, “We know that kids want to climb,” a reference to a climbing wall which has been discussed in the past but determined to be too expensive.
