ER Closure Protest Expands Thru County

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Dear Editor,

Do you or your family use the Springhill or Pugwash ER (now called the Collaborative Emergency Centre)?  Are you aware that if Dr. Brian Ferguson stops working in the CEC’s at both Springhill and Pugwash hospitals then potentially both CEC’s could be closed?  Are you prepared to sit for hours in the ER at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Nappan because CEC’s in Springhill and Pugwash are closed?

It has been brought to the attention of the Save Our Services Committee that an unsigned staff complaint is the reason why Janet Davidson, the Administrator of Nova Scotia Health is still pursuing a legal ruling against Dr. Brian Ferguson after twenty-five months of being unable to reach a decision.  How much of the taxpayer’s money is Nova Scotia Health prepared to spend over an unsigned staff complaint?  What ever happened to due process? following the rules? and timely decision making?

If this legal battle continues or Nova Scotia Health determines fault in the case, Dr. Brian Ferguson will no longer be practicing medicine for YOU the people of Cumberland County.

What can you do to help?

Contact all of the following people to voice your concerns:

Cumberland North MLA Elizabeth Smith-McCrossin -902-661-2288

Cumberland South MLA Tory Rushton- 902-597-4039

Minister of Health Michelle Thompson- 902-424-5818

Premier Tim Houston- 902-424-6600

Don’t allow our hospital to close services because you didn’t say or do anything!

Join us for the march and rally.  If you can’t walk then join us at the MLA’s office.

On Wednesday 1 June 2022, the Save Our Services Committee will hold a march and rally.  At 11:30 am we will march to Cumberland South MLA Tory Rushton’s office at 6 Mcfarlane Street in Springhill.

On Tuesday 7 June 2022, the Save Our Services Committee will hold a second march and rally.  At 11:30 am we will march to Cumberland North MLA Elizabeth McCrossin’s office at 5 Ratchford Street in Amherst.

When we march to the MLA offices in both Cumberland North and Cumberland South, we will have one statement and two questions. Statement – Without Dr. Brian Ferguson, Nova Scotia Health will not be able to keep the Springhill and Pugwash Collaborative Emergency Centres open.  Is the Nova Scotia government trying to close the CEC’s in Springhill and Pugwash – Yes or No ?  As the MLA, What are you doing about it?

It’s time for residents of Cumberland County to take action to support Dr. Brian Ferguson and ensure our MLA’s are working on our behalf.

John Alderson
