Staff Reporter / Wednesday, November 18, 2020 / Categories: News First Cumberland Council Meeting Full of Firsts Murray Scott chaired his first meeting as Mayor of Cumberland tonight and it was a meeting of firsts. It was the first session with just eight councillors, the first with gender parity as the composition of council includes four females and four males. Council struck another first with the election of a deputy mayor. Two were nominated including Rod Gilroy of District Two and the District Four councillor Kathy Redmond, with Redmond capturing the vote. the new deputy mayor resigned from the Pugwash Village Commission to run in the October election. She had previously served on council, a fact that was presented in her nomination for the deputy’s position. The meeting was held by video conference and streamed to the public online.
