Food Bank Rises to the Christmas Challenge
Volunteers at the Open Hamper Food Bank in Pugwash are busy this morning preparing Christmas boxes for select families in the area.
Numerous volunteers are on hand, at the North Cumberland Regional Hospital, the basement home to the food bank, to load food, Christmas presents, and items specifically chosen for local families.
The list of needs are prepared by a small leadership group who work anonymously, and the family baskets are loaded by caring volunteers who simply ensure the variety of goods are spread evenly among all recipients.
The key ingredient is a turkey, the foundation of a complete Christmas dinner. Through the goodness and generosity of the community, Open Hamper is able to meet the needs of local families who need the support of neighbours during this special time of year.
In recent years, the Open Hamper provided for nearly 90 local families.
