Staff Reporter / Friday, February 24, 2017 / Categories: News Food Bank Volunteer Proposes Village Garden Pugwash may have a community garden this summer. Dorothy Pal presented the idea to the Village Commission last night. Pal hopes to use a small piece of village owned land to grow fresh vegetables for the local food bank. The idea stemmed from an experience last year when Pal was harvesting vegetables from the garden at Cyrus Eaton Elementary School. When food bank clients learned Pal was working the garden alone, some of them came out to help. Pal hopes a community garden will unite the food bank and the community health board in an effort to teach about food security while enjoying the harvest. Her idea is very preliminary. She will discuss the plan in detail with the board of the food bank, and the Community Health Board. Meanwhile, the Village Commission must approve use of the land, a vacant lot on Prince Albert Street.
