Forest Ban Lifted in Most Areas
The Province has lifted restrictions on travel and activities in the woods, effective this morning.
The ban is still in effect for Shelburne County and any area covered by an evacuation order.
Natural Resources Minister Tory Rushton says, “We know that using our woods and trails are important to many Nova Scotians' physical and mental health. Thanks to the weather, conditions have improved, but we still need be cautious.”
With five fires still active, Rushton added, “We are keeping the burn ban in place and asking people to continue to be responsible while enjoying the outdoors."
Activities that are now permitted include hiking, camping, fishing, and the use of vehicles in the woods.
The fine for illegal burning remains at $25,000.
Environment Canada is predicting 40 to 80 mm of rain in southwestern and central Nova Scotia over the next three days.
