Health Care Workers Receive Welcome Surprise
Health care workers at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre received a pleasant surprise last week with delivery of some home made chilli and cake for dessert.
It was a simple way to say thank you for the extra effort and on-going commitment by hospital staff during the current coronavirus pandemic.
It was no plain chilli but rather a special, secret recipe from the Deputy Mayor of Amherst, Sheila Christie.
The delivery boys were no slouches either, none other than Amherst Mayor David Kogan and Bruce Saunders, the Chair of the Cumberland Physician and Family Appreciation Committee.
The committee works behind the scenes with two sub-committees, one to help with physician recruitment and the other geared to show appreciation and retain doctors who choose to work in the area.
The committee represents the Town of Amherst through the mayor, the Municipality of Cumberland, represented by Councillor Joe van Vulpen, the Town of Oxford with Mayor Trish Stewart, other community leaders, and supported by concerned physicians.
Together they participate in physician recruitment fairs and expos while offering numerous supports and goodwill to show why Cumberland is a great place to establish a medical practice.
Saunders and Kogan not only delivered the surprise, they also served it.
