Staff Reporter / Monday, July 16, 2018 / Categories: News High Bacteria Closes Heather Beach The Department of Lands and Forestry has closed Heather Beach to swimmers. The announcement came today after officials recorded a high bacteria count. Heather Beach, off Highway 366 about 12 km from Pugwash is one of the province’s 33 lifeguard supervised beaches. The water is tested regularly to protect swimmers. High bacteria readings often follow days of high temperatures, like the area felt over the last week. The beach is closed till further notice. Given the hot and humid forecast, that may be the rest of the week and perhaps into the middle of next week.
