The executive director of the Cumberland Business Connector told county council last night that housing has become a huge issue. Jonathan McClelland says people have turned down lucrative job offers because they cannot find a suitable place to live. McClelland says many businesses are now in growth mode but they struggle to fill job openings or gain productivity enhancements needed to fuel the growth. While the housing shortage seems to be a general concern across Nova Scotia, Cumberland’ recent real estate boom has left an unexpected mark facing all levels of society.
