Huge Majority Test COVID Free Yesterday
The microbiology lab at the QEII Health Sciences Centre completed 901 COVID tests yesterday and only unearthed twelve new cases of the virus. The lower number stands in stark contrast to recent reports as the pandemic was growing in Nova Scotia.
However, the chief medical officer says, “Now is not the time to let our guard down.” Dr. Robert Strang says, “What we are doing is working to slow this virus' spread and we need to stay the course. Please continue to follow public health orders and advice.”
While health officials have given no indication that the latest test report is anywhere near cause for celebration, the premier has decided to cut back on press briefings. There is no press conference scheduled for today and for the next while, the events will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.
As of yesterday, there were ten licensed long-term care homes and unlicensed seniors' facilities in Nova Scotia with cases of COVID-19, involving 235 residents and 104 staff.
A total of 29,156 Nova Scotians have been tested, with 28,209 negative results and 947 positive tests.
Twenty-eight people have died, all seniors with underlying medical conditions, and twenty-two o those lived at Northwood Care in Halifax.
Confirmed cases range in age from under 10 to over 90.
Only ten patients are currently in hospital, three of those in ICU.
Five-hundred and forty-five individuals have recovered and their cases of COVID-19 are considered resolved.
Cases have been identified in all parts of the province. A map and graphic presentation of the case data is available by health zone at https://novascotia.ca/coronavirus/data.
