Ice Cream Cones Win Christmas Tree Award
A summer season shop has won the People’s Choice Award at Treefest, the third annual Christmas tree competition sponsored by Pugwash Communities in Bloom.
The lobby of Pugwash High School was festooned with trees of all description. Creative efforts included a tree made from wine bottles and golf clubs, but after a week of voting, an ice cream shop stole the hearts of the general public and students of the school.
The entry from The Inside Scoop (Water Street, Pugwash) was a colourful tree covered in ice cream cones.
Jennifer Langill says it was exciting to win the award, but added, “I think my kids were even more excited.”
Langill made all the cones, using a small styrofoam ball glued to a real cone. “It was a lot of work,” she said, “They were all hand-painted and it took about six hours.”
When it came time to dismantle the tree, Langill noted that some of the cones had bite marks and one had the bottom nibbled off.
While TreeFest features some very beautifully decorated trees, the more creative seem to capture public attention. Last year’s winner, Cunningham Construction, built a tree with variously sized motorcycles.
Langill is already thinking of next year. She says, “My sister and I are thinking of changing things up, to get a little more creative.”
TreeFest was held at Pugwash High, concurrently with a Christmas party for the salt mine employees, and a basketball tournament. Estimates suggest the trees were viewed by well over a thousand people.
Jennifer Langill will be a guest on Six Rivers Radio's "Morning Talk" on Monday about 8:05 am to talk about her winning project.
